A recent study has shown that African Americans and Hispanics are far more likely to develop precancerous colorectal polyps than Caucasians.

Previously it was believed that Caucasians were more likely to develop colon cancer due to an unhealthy lifestyle. But in recent years, with a rising population of minorities adopting the “American lifestyle,” the risk for precancerous colorectal polyps has increased considerably. A significant sample size was analyzed and the data results reveal strong evidence suggesting this dramatic change.

This is a significant finding and should serve as a reminder to all minorities to have their colon screened regularly. A colonoscopy is the recommended screening test to prevent or detect early signs of precancerous polyps.
