What if we were to tell you that taking a daily aspirin could reduce the chance of dying from a particular disease by almost a third?

According to research published recently that is the case with colorectal cancer. Earlier this year, a British study found that aspirin not only prevents a range of cancers from developing, but also stops them from spreading to other organs. Their findings are now backed by a Dutch research team, who after looking at 4,500 colon cancer patients came up with similar findings.

According to the Dutch study, patients with colorectal cancer who took an 81mg tablet daily for a minimum of nine months were 30 percent less likely to die over an average follow up period of 3.5 years. The impact of a daily aspirin was even greater in patients with colon cancer, who on average reduced the chance of death by 39 percent.

Impact on future treatment

While more research is needed, the results could be a big advance in treatment of the disease. Especially when considering that this is a widely available and familiar drug, likely to cost patients just pennies a day.

This is just one more finding that can be added to the growing evidence about the benefits of aspirin. Make an appointment with Dr. Berookim today to see if you are a candidate for daily aspirin.
