Website Accessibility Statement

Last updated: July 2026

The Gastroenterology Institute of Southern California, led by Peyton P. Berookim, MD, FACG, is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability.

We strive to conform to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, and to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and improve usability for all visitors.

Measures We Take

  • Accessibility is integrated into our website design, development, and content publishing processes.
  • Our site includes an accessibility widget (UserWay) that allows visitors to adjust contrast, text size, spacing, cursor size, and more.
  • Pages are regularly evaluated with automated testing tools, including WAVE by WebAIM, and reviewed manually for keyboard and screen reader compatibility.
  • We continue to audit, test, and improve the site on an ongoing basis as content and standards evolve.

Accessibility Features

  • “Skip to content” link on every page
  • Structured semantic markup with a logical heading hierarchy
  • Alternative text for meaningful images
  • Descriptive link text that makes sense out of context
  • Explicitly labeled form fields
  • Content that remains readable and usable without stylesheets, images, or JavaScript
  • Sufficient color contrast; no information conveyed by color alone
  • Captioned video content
  • Responsive design that supports zoom up to 200% and mobile assistive technologies

Compatibility

This website is designed to be compatible with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox) and with assistive technologies, including screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver.

Known Limitations

Despite our efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible — for example, alternative text on older archived images and certain third-party embedded content. We are actively working to remediate these areas.
