What Is The PillCam™ UGI System?
The PillCam UGI System contains a camera inside the capsule that captures accurate and detailed images at a rate of 18 to 35 frames per second. The PillCam travels through the patient’s upper GI tract. The PillCam UGI System allows physicians to detect any blood in the esophagus, duodenum, or stomach. Physicians are able to be more confident in detecting and diagnosing any bleeding in these areas.
What Causes Bleeding In The Upper GI Tract?
Ulcers, esophageal cancer, and esophagitis can cause bleeding in the upper GI tract. In order to produce an accurate diagnosis, your gastroenterologist must find symptoms of these causes such as:
- Blood in vomit
- Diarrhea
- Fatigue
- Shortness of breath
- Lightheaded/dizziness
